A Message from Dr. Michael M. Crow

Dear ASU Advocate Friend,

Having opened the fall semester, I am very pleased to report the significant progress we have made in meeting both our mission of student access and excellence as illustrated by the profile of our fall 2005 entering freshman class.

The Fall 2005 class is the largest in ASU’s history – 8403 (a 9% increase from Fall 2004).

The freshman class has increased 28% since 2001, 100% since 1995.

64% of the entering freshmen are Arizona residents; 36% are recruited nationally and enrolled from out-of-state.

30% of the Arizona freshmen are students of color, 137% increase since 1995.

16% of all new freshmen rank in the top 5% of their high school graduating class.

Arizona freshmen in the top 5% of the graduating class enrolling at ASU have increased 102% increase since 2001.

28% of all entering freshmen rank in the top 10% of their high school graduating class.

Out-of-state scholars (3.40 GPA and above) have increased 89% since 2001.

National Merit Scholars have increased 38% since 2001….155 enrolling Fall 2005, 48 from Arizona.

10 of 20 prestigious Flinn Scholars enrolled for Fall 2005, the most ever for ASU.

Access ASU, a new financial aid program for the neediest Arizonans (families at or below the federal poverty level) provided full educational funding for more than 285 Arizona students– a 482% increase for students in this income group, since 2001.

We are very proud of our freshmen class and the advancements that have been made by the entire student body.

I look forward to sharing additional information in the future as we works towards our vision.

Sincerely,

Michael M. Crow
President
